O taste and see

Psalm 34:8- O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good! How many times have we said this on a Sunday morning or to someone we know? Sometimes things in our life happen and we may find ourselves questioning God. Why does He allow bad things to happen in our lives? Why didn’t my prayers get answered? I don’t have the answers, but what I do know is what His word says in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.”

A few days ago, I moved back to Dallas, TX. I knew that my stay in Tennessee was temporary and that one day God would send me back. I love Texas and every year for 3 years I asked God if it was time. The answer would be the same, not yet or soon. But this year, I felt a shifting taking place in my life and I believed that this was the year. There were moments when I had my doubts because I did not have things in place to make the transition. The story of Abraham would come to mind. God told him to go and he went. It was through his obedience that he was blessed.

So, I moved in faith without a job, a car or a place to live. The pressure of wondering how I would continue to pay my bills and how would I even get to a job without a car came to mind. Fleeting thoughts of “I could always go back if things don’t work out” or “God was this your will or mine?” would cross my mind. But, I was determined to believe that this was God and that He would provide. So, when the thoughts would come, I would remember His Word and think of His goodness. God is a good God no matter what we go through. And I believe in our struggles we are able to see clearly just how wonderful and good He is.

By faith, I made the move, which may have seemed crazy to those around me. But God does not always do things that we can understand. My friend and her family opened their home up to me and now I have a place to live. I got a call from an assistant principal of a school to come in for an interview the second day of moving (and she wants to hire me). I am not even qualified for the job but she is willing to allow me to take the test so I could work there. In order to register for the test, I had to wait for some updates to my file, which they said could take 10 days. I did not have 10 days to wait. But God! Instead of 10 days, it took 2 days! Do you see how God works when you walk in faith and obedience?

Even more exciting, when I was visiting TX a month ago to look for employment and a place to live, my mom had a dream that I was a roommate with a woman who lived here. Then just like that, I come in contact with a woman looking to rent out part of her house. Everything has started falling into place. Do I have the car yet? No, but maybe someone will decide to give me a car…that’s how good God is to His children. What do you believe God to do in your life? Has He called to do something but you are waiting for things to “look right?” I say if God says go then go, if He says do, then do, and if He says speak then speak! Taste of His goodness and do not be afraid to ask Him to do the impossible!
