What does it Means to take Holy Communion Unworthily?
Some fail to understand the purpose of Holy Communion. 1 Corinthians chapter eleven covers the Lord’s supper. 1 Corinthians 11:24-25 says, “And when He (Jesus Christ) had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in the remembrance of me.”
Now listen very carefully to the next set of scriptures. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord’s death till he come. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the LORD’s body. (1 Corinthians 11:26-29) How do people eatheth and drinketh unworthily at Holy Communion?
Answer: When they fail to eat that bread and drink of that cup, (the Word of God) before and after Holy Communion they eateth and drinketh unworthily at Holy Communion. That bread and that cup are the Words of God in the New Testament. Therefore, if you fail to study to show yourself approved unto God, at communion when you eat and drink in remembrance of Jesus, it is unworthily. Let every man examine himself.
1 Corinthians 11:30 says, “For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.” Listen, because people fail to study to show themselves approved unto God, many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. The Word of God is spiritual food; it is life. When you do not have enough spiritual food, you become weak, sickly, and you die because of the lack of life. Thank you Holy Spirit for this truth!
