Copying Jesus

Surely this title came directly from the Holy Spirit; it was given to me in a dream.

In a dream, I thought that I was at a military briefing or a training seminar. Nevertheless, the instructor came forth and stated the topic for today. He stated the topic is “Copying Jesus.” I recall saying to myself that is a powerful topic; I never heard this topic before; is there anyone else discussing this topic? I thought that everyone should be discussing this one! Let me write it down! Next, I awoke from the dream. Now I am sharing this with you in love by the Spirit of Truth.

 Surely this is exactly what a Christian is called to do, to copy the works of Christ and his deeds. At John 14:12, Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

 Jesus gave us the same glory he had when he walked the earth. At John 17:5 Jesus said, “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. John 17:22, Jesus said: “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them: that they may be one, even as we are one.” We must understand that as Christians, we have the same glory that Christ had when he walked this earth.

Before we copy the works of Jesus, we must experience the new birth and realize that we have been bought with a price and we are not our own. According to 1 Corinthians 6:14-20: (14) And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. (15) Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. (16) What? Know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? For two, saith he shall be one flesh. (17) But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. (18) Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. (19) What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which we have of God, and ye are not your own? (20) For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” It is imperative that we understand this truth.

It is imperative that we understand our relationship with God. Therefore, let us examine the mystery of God’s will. Ephesians 1:9-10 says: “Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: (10) That in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:” Ephesians 2:11-22 explains how we now have an habitation of God through the Spirit. Let us read the text.

Eph: 2:12: That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Eph: 2:13: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Eph: 2:14: For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

Eph: 2:15: Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

Eph: 2:16: And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Eph: 2:17: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

Eph: 2:18: For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

Eph: 2:19: Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

Eph: 2:20: And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Eph: 2:21: In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

Eph: 2:22: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

            Apostle Paul understood his calling and he was able to copy the works of Christ. Ephesians 3:8-9 explains that Paul was commanded to make all men see the fellowship of the mystery of God. Let us read: (8) “Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; (9) And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: (10) To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God.”

In Acts chapter nineteen, the Apostle Paul was able to make all men see the fellowship of the mystery of God. God used Paul mightily; thus the name of Jesus was magnified and the word of God prevailed. Like Paul, we must make all man see the fellowship of the mystery – God’s will! Thus we have an habitation with God in Christ through the Spirit. Surely we have been given power to copy Christ. Let us give God the glory.

            Now let us see what we must do to copy Jesus Christ.

First, Jesus explained that he could do nothing on his own the Father did the work (John 5:19) It is imperative that we understand this truth!

(2) Jesus sought the will of the Father (John 5:30)

(3) To copy Christ, we must understand the work of God. Jesus said at John 6:29, “This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

(4) We also must realize: “Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.” John 6:53-58: Therefore, we must study to show ourselves approved unto God.

(5) Jesus yielded to the Father’s will; therefore ye must put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

(50) Jesus was perfect – surely we must move unto perfection

(51) Jesus adhered to the commandments of God – therefore we must follow all the commandments of Christ. We must allow the Sermon on the Mount to become our way of living and thinking. Matthew chapter 5, 6 and 7

 Jesus wants us to do the works that he did and greater works, however first we must receive the Gift of the Father. Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? If you have not received the gift of the Holy Ghost, it is impossible to copy Jesus. In fact, you may be teaching for doctrine the commandments of men – worshiping the Lord in vain. (Mark 7:7) There are more than 33,000 Christian denominations around the world. Something is wrong with this picture. Jesus wants us to teach and preach the same thing. However, if you have it right – do not condemn others. However, go forth and preach the everlasting gospel and demonstrate the power of the living God and give him the glory because the hour of his judgment is come. We must fear Him and give Him the glory in the name of Jesus.

 Are you a pastor? Are you showing others how to become fishers of men? If you are not a pastor – Are you doing the things that Jesus did while he was walking this earth; or are you caught up in the cares of this world? Do you have love for truth? Jesus is the Spirit of Truth – Do you have the Spirit of Truth within you? Have you truly taken up your cross? Do you truly want to copy Jesus? Do you want to copy Him by your actions? Your speech? Do you really want to please the Father? Do you really believe that you can do the same works Jesus did while he was walking on earth as the Son of God?

Saints of the Living God – we have work to do, surely the saints will make the Bride of Christ ready – let us pray for one another because we are one, compacted upon one another.
